What are Fillings?

Dental fillings are needed to treat tooth decay or broken teeth. You may know you need a filling if you feel pain or sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet or if your tooth looks or feels different.

What are Composite Fillings?

Composite fillings are also called white or tooth-coloured fillings. They are made of a resin and ceramic mixture that can be colour matched to your tooth. They are strong, long-lasting and free of any mercury. At Brookmans Park Dental, we use high quality composites as our standard filling material for their superior qualities and aesthetics.

What are Amalgam Fillings?

Amalgam fillings are otherwise called silver fillings. We do not offer amalgam fillings at Brookmans Park Dental as modern composites are just as strong, are less destructive on your teeth, apply less stress forces on the tooth and look much better. Amalgams are also less environmentally friendly.

Can I change my silver fillings to white fillings?

Of course. Most silver fillings can be changed to composite white fillings with no problems. If the original silver filling is very large or very close to the nerve, your dentist may suggest other options like a crown instead. It is best to discuss your options with your dentist who will examine and take x-rays to assess the best options for you.

Do fillings hurt?

No. At Brookmans Park Dental, we are gentle and provide adequate anaesthesia to ensure your experience is a pleasant one.
