Why is a Dental Implant needed?

Dental implants replace teeth that patients may have lost due to decay, infection or trauma.

  • Decay of a tooth may be so extensive that long-term chances of survival are poor.
  • Infection of the tooth can occur from untreated decay, failed root canal treatments or a for some other reasons.
  • Trauma to a tooth can cause a break or fracture to the crown or root of the tooth, which may deem it unrestorable.

What are the components of a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are made of 2 constituents. The implant itself replaces the root of the tooth. The implants used at Brookmans Park Dental are all made of high quality Titanium and have a special surface coating to help the implant fuse to your bone.

The crown replaces the part of the tooth that you can see in the mouth. It will function well like a natural tooth when eating and chewing and also look great when you smile. Implant crowns can be screw or cement retained. At Brookmans Park Dental, we use certified BRITISH laboratories to manufacture the highest quality natural-looking crowns. These crowns are either made from Zirconia or Porcelain fused to metal.

Both implant parts will seamlessly work together and give you the most natural looking and feeling tooth. This is the Brookmans Park Dental Guarantee.

Who can have a Dental Implant?

Any adult.

As we require stable bone for successful implant restorations, we would advise implants only be placed on adults after facial growth has stopped, which is usually after 21 years old. There is no upper age limit for having dental implants.

What is the procedure?

At Brookmans Park Dental we offer a FREE CONSULTATION if you are interested in having a dental implant. We will take relevant x-rays of the area in question and discuss the costs and procedure in detail.

If you have a tooth that requires removal/extraction, this can also be done at Brookmans Park Dental. Once the tooth is removed the site will need to be left to heal for 8-12 weeks. Thereafter, a CT scan may be taken of the area and a plan made for the implant surgery.

If you are suitable for the implant, the placement surgery will usually take 2-3 hours and be conducted under local anesthetic. You will experience minimal discomfort after the surgery. After the implant is placed, we will allow 3 months for the titanium implant to integrate with your bone before restoring with a crown

How long will Implants last?

We hope your dental implant lasts many years in your mouth. There is no lifetime guarantee with dental implants because just like other implants placed in the body, such as knee and hip prostheses, they can fail or require replacement.

How long the implant lasts in your mouth is dependent on your oral hygiene and several other factors. If you regularly attend for Dental Health examinations and hygiene appointments at Brookmans Park Dental, we can spot any potential issues and act quickly.

How much does a Dental Implant cost?

£2500 per implant including the crown.

If you have insufficient bone present to support the titanium implant, our surgeons can discuss bone grafting alternatives, which may incur an additional charge.
